It's a beautiful artifact, which I had the good fortune to see at an exhibition in the RMO last year.

The cape was apparently further decorated with textile and hundreds of amber beads. Here's a photo where you can see a bit of the inside of it.

In the same exhibit was this golden hat.🗃️

Haven't shared all my photos I took during my last visit to Naturalis. So today I'm sharing the ones I took of the Camarasaurus.

I like how dynamic they posed it, and you really feel like a mouse when standing next to it.

Day 30: The worldbuilding element I'm always happy to see are the marks history have left on the environment. Traces of a past that the characters might not know, that isn't relevant to the story, but hint at a deep past.
I've tried to use it in my own books as well.

Day 29: I finally watched K-Pop Demon Hunters. And then did something I rarely do and rewatched it like a day or two later. The music, the humor, the visuals, I understand fully why it's so popular.

Day 28: There is no magical tradition in the Valley that allows for the creation of illusions. But living swords are not bound by those limits and can possess powers that no wizard can replicate with their spells.
Misthell is a great example of this and the power of illusion.

Day 27: Olean slew the fire serpent Sothethae and turned its right eye into an everburning lantern. When he was old, to stop his heirs from fighting over his treasures, he poured them into the lantern and threw it into the sky where it got stuck and is now a star.

Day 26: The Donkelholm is an ancient forest whose depths remain mysterious to humankind. Trees you can't find anywhere else arrayed as tightly as an advancing army drink up every drop of sunlight, their fallen brethren strewn across their wide roots.

Day 25: In the Living Sword, you'll rarely encounter torches. Artificial light comes from hearths and campfires, oil lamps, candles, and if you're very rich, you can afford a few magical lamps. These are at their heart enchanted pieces of quartz that release light in the dark

Day 24: If Aethel is the light, then Ariod is the night. He is the warrior, he brings death. But Irelians also turn to him when they require justice. When they are sick, they ask him to kill the disease and spare the patient.

Day 23: The Irelian religion is one that puts a great emphasis on dualities, the balance between opposites. In that system, the goddess Aethel represents the side of light and live. Also one of truth and mercy, but not justice as she makes no distinction between lives.

Day 22: “There’s only one place left to go for my answers, but now I don’t want to go there. I don’t want to be responsible for any more death.”

Day 21: To the far north resides the Mochedan Nation tied to the Orca. They're the only ones that can survive in their harsh conditions, and one of the few who have stories of drachatai. It is said they even hunted a solitary male, five generations ago.

Day 20: Eurik grew up on San, an isolated, volcanic island in the north. No nearby islands, no other destination beyond San that's on the way. But few san ever sail the open ocean, so Eurik has so far experienced one short ocean voyage.
Silverfang has only seen the ocean.

This shield cover from Iran, dated roughly to 1000 BCE, appears to depict a number of scenes from one or multiple stories.
Museum wasn't sure what stories it is supposed to depict, and I wonder if it might actually be something similar to the 12 Labors of Herakles?

Day 19: The prevailing winds blow south in the Spring and north in the Fall (Northern Hemisphere), so most traders make use of this pattern. But none dare to venture too far away from land, because ships simply don't survive in the deep ocean.

Day 18: A legend only spoken of in Volsom, and considered heresy everywhere else, speaks of the reason the sea is salty. Posaidar, according to that story, was actually the lover of Aethel. When she left him for Ariod, he hid far to the west & wept for 12 days and 13 nights.

Day 17: To the west, in the Posaidic Ocean that stretches from Nese to Ainchang Ystoil, there are pods of drachatai. Extremely territorial of their deep water territories, every few years they congregate in the bays of the Island of Stalking Horrors to mate.

Day 16: There aren't many oceanic deities featured in Living Sword. Beyond the minor ones imported from Nese, there is Posaidar. Patron deity of Volsom, only really worshiped there.
He is mainly a god of the Sea, Trade, and Gambling. The origins of his cult are mysterious.📚🪐🧙‍♂️
