Thanks! He didnt take long to hop away haha I got there in time, size-wise it could be worse, I've seen some insanely tiny micro ones at my blacklight and I still have no solid ID (likely genus Empoa though, maybe E. gillettei). I collected and triangle'd two specimens though so maybe someday I will

Unfortunately no recent photos that aren't of my pets, canadian winter is sad! Here's this very blue and cute rhododendron leafhopper from last summer though, cicadellidae and membracidae are among my favorite taxa. They're so goofy and adorable

Going to try to post more with the influx of activity due to the public launch- wish I had recent live invert observations to share (I do have a backlog of specimens to process and ID), winter here is sad. But at least I've got birds- here are some Snorbs (snow bunting orbs) 🪶

Although not a bird, while out on a trail, we came across a porcupine, to the amazement of the family who showed up to the guided walk. I reassured them that no, porcupines are not capable of shooting out their quills like projectiles- just offer them space and respect like any other wildlife. 🌿

Hello, been a while! I haven't had time to post much, with college starting up again. Here's a red-shouldered hawk spotted during a birding walk as part of my work for a local interpretation centre. Need to brush up on my raptor ID, wasn't sure if juv. red-tail or red-shoulder when first seen. 🪶🌿

An American copper butterfly I found dead in some goldenrod, in perfect condition. I wonder what happened? Usually when I find dead insects in these plants a goldenrod crab spider is the culprit but there was none that I could see this time. Took it to pin, hopefully didn't steal anyone's lunch. 🌿

Ebony jewelwing, male. Females have white spots on their wings and a darker body, more bronze than green/blue. 🌿 #Invertebrate

Great black digger wasp (Sphex pensylvanicus) feeding on gooseneck loosestrife, a plant not native to North America, at a local park. A very striking wasp species that preys on orthopterans to feed its offspring. 🌿

Dichelonyx sp. from late July, who flew right into me! Love this genus, definitely some of my favorite scarabs. 🌿

@restingdinoface.bsky.social I hope it's okay to @ you, I just wanted to say I absolutely loved TLDotD! I bought it a while back but had never really been on public social media 'til now. Definitely connected with the book, especially the final section.

It's probably already obvious from my layout and username, but fisher for sure! I love mustelids as a whole already and they're just great animals. Photos are mine of a zoo individual (Zoo sauvage St-Félicien) and my two skull specimens, female and incomplete male.

Augochlorella aurata collected by me- distinguished from Augochlora pura by the sides of the clypeus joining the paraocular area in a simple right angle (no rounded lobe extending down), the mandible tips being rounded and slightly reddish and the marginal cell being pointed rather than truncate.
