I have a (estranged) family member who is a big Tommy Robinson fan. They're letting their kid be taken to a paedophile’s house. Same with the family pro-lifer. It's never about protecting kids.

If you know someone who is good with a drill, they could drill a hole in this and put a thicker dowel through which you could then stain to match. In case you don't see anything suitable.

I use pliers, not as attractive but work well. The concern with this for me is that you may still need to grip it firmly enough to create leverage. It would probably work better if it was more T shaped.
