The ocean has absorbed most of the carbon emitted by humans so far, and an international agreement has long been needed to protect it for future generations, so it can continue to be a source of livelihood and joy. This afternoon the BBNJ Treaty will be debated, helping make this a reality

📰Yesterday P4P Vice-Chair Baroness Boycott wrote to @thetimes.com about her amendment requiring the Government to ensure that new and existing schools are adapted to climate risks like extreme heat and flooding.
The amendment will be debated in September where Govt will have to respond

Plastic pollution is a global problem that needs a global solution. Today Baroness Parminter is asking government what they are doing to ensure the legally binding global treaty, which was agreed necessary at @unep.org in 2022, comes to light.

In the first 4 months of this year, the UK had more 🔥#wildfires 🔥than in any of the previous 20 - outlined in the graph below which shows how important it is becoming to build resilience in this area.
Today Peers will be debating action being taken to manage wildfire risks.

Today a few climate and nature issues being raised in the Lords inc:
🚢An OQ on the UK/Columbia treaty about ISDS - (which allows the Columbia to be sued for improving environmental regulations)
🔋And the Clean Heat Market Mechanism SI, which requires boiler manufacturers to produce more heat pumps

Yesterday Baroness Sheehan asked Minister Baroness Hayman of Ullock about progress with the delayed Land Use Strategy – which will be crucial to meeting our climate and nature targets and other national priorities. The Minister confirmed it should be published later this month 👇👇
