The long, looong empty corridor is weird and echoey and greige, just hostile minimalism wrought large. There are still a few normal higher-end stores on the upper level (Ann Taylor, Lucky Brand), but on the main floor I‘m not sure you can buy a single thing for under $1000.

The flood of office workers through Copley Place is so weird, because unlike what it was in the middle 2010s, it’s now a white, sterile, hostile extreme-elite space. With very few elites actually present! Just office workers not stopping at the shops.

Little nice details on this thing: Perry sure the buttonholes are sewn by hand. A placket covering the buttonholes. Cuffs that aren’t just turned back extra sleeve, but sewn on as separate pieces.

I did enjoy all the people climbing statues, many of which, this being Boston, commemorate being on the right side of history last time.

The two forms of democracy: vote-by-mail, and Tyrannosaurus Inflatica.

Is today Back Bay henge? The internet seems to think it’s later in October, but the internet also calls it Bostonhenge, as if the cow paths were orderly. Anyway, I noticed because everyone walking west had a hand over their eyes from the glare.

Some of the last flowers of fall, on this first truly fall morning.

Progress on the library building!

In addition to Open Streets, I was interested in an open view of the Fields Corner library branch, now with a back exterior wall!

Well, we know this isn’t an ad for a hot dog stand!

Note the nose-down angle of the steam engine when on the relative flat: it’s meant to be level when going up a 25% + incline.

The unintended pumpkins have been gangbusters this summer, and are still setting blossoms (This one was the size of my hand; pumpkin leaves are about 12” x12”!) Never mind the blackberry vines getting in the shot: they’re very pushy.

This young creature was young or dumb enough to trot across the street within 20 feet of humans, but smart enough to startle when humans rapped smartly on a bundt pan to warn him off. (Why a bundt pan, cousin? Because I had one in hand.)

Sometimes, you just have to ride the old-fashioned train (technically a trolley/tram). The kind on wires, not the kind with its own engine. For being almost a century old, they’re pretty good! Unfortunately the line fails at the slightest breath of weather, so go on a sunny day.

Oh, no big whoop, just a commanding black plinth standing around in the middle of the T station. Why do you ask, Hal?

This started out as a scraggly half-dead plant my neighbor salvaged from the trash at Home Depot. It had one dying blossom when I planted it in the fall, and now look. (They’re vigorous self-seeders.)

The library is no longer a pile of dirt, so there’s that. (It’ll be 2 stories, so those columns are the final height.)

From my local give-away garden. We picked peaches, purple grapes, and early blackberries and gave almost all of them away. More peaches next week, too. I used to say that northern drupes are always bitter, but with the summers we have now, we get spectacular peaches.

Yes, I’m still obsessed with this bee; it was so intent and just ignored me no matter how close I got.
