Help, my father is watching poorly made renditions of traditional songs with covers that have ai-generated "modern day" verisions of national poets on them. The lyrics aren't even theirs and he's perfectly aware of what he's doing T T

Ok, so I've named my Yorkshire backwater at last! It's called Houndsbrow Hall. It sits atop Sorrel Hill and overlooks the Red Beck (brook). I ended up using "Don in Yon Forest" as inspo. Thanks @cassandrahase.bsky.social!
#writing #worldbuilding How do you people come up with names for fictional manor houses or towns for period/contemporary settings?

If you see this, QTP with food to show where you grew up 😋
(kinda cheating, but here goes:)

Probably, I find hiding easter eggs for myself really motivating for some reason. Though, family/friend inside jokes never find their way into my work (when I'm writing in English at least). Otherwise, anything goes tbh
#LateNightWrite Do you have any inside jokes or running jokes you insert into your writing that readers may not even realize are there?

Apparently, I've only used the word "white" twice so far...

Yes! Apathy is a bit of a theme in general. However, the second Mrs Umpleby (Sukey) grew up in a hostile home enviorment where she was often forced either to silently observe, or cooerced into directly participating in abuse for fear of reprocussions; she feels totally helpless in the face of evil.
#LateNightWrite Evil thrives when good people do nothing. Are there any instances of harm being done or perpetuated in your story's setting specifically due to a character's complacency, apathy, or inaction?

Hmm... I will have to add to this, because I did hear this truism when starting out and found that it rather discourged me.
'Even your worst, most self-endulgent, cringy crap will spark joy when you look back at it if it had been made with love.'

Everything you will write for the first time will suck ass. It's kinda tough but it's a truth that would have helped child me to manage his expectations.
That doesn't mean it will keep being ass, but you have to keep working on it and it will turn out to be great!
#LateNightWrite Welcome back to Saturday chats! What is one thing you know now that you wish you had been told right when you first started writing?

Play/Book Mrs Lofthouse - tastefully nude. This is an old one, but she's too pretty to be confined to my sketch book.

Hi! I'm Sal (a casual). I have two WIPs - a novel called "A Heathen's Wager" and a spin-off play called "The Devils's Rib". The latter of which is actually available publically and is semi close to being finished.
Happy Saturday and welcome to another #LateNightWrite! Let's start with Introductions, tell us about yourself and your WIP(s) in any way you like.
