I make cathartic little internet things and write slightly longer-form text for a small no of people here: https://peabee.substack.com
put together a keyboard with retro key caps and fancy switches and so happy with how it looks and sounds

Compelled by those atrocious Parle Marie ads, I wrote a tiny browser extension to auto mute certain IPL ads on Hotstar.

It actually works really well and also mutes Vimal, Kamla Pasand, My11, Pokerbaazi etc ads out of the box.

took forever, but I am healed now

It wasn't the NYT, but close enough!

(I hope they got a good pay out from The Atlantic for this because it's such a fun game)

can anyone identify the movie/show this still belongs to? Google image search wasn't very helpful. I initially thought this was Jenna Ortega from Wednesday but the hair does not match

in veep S3E4 around the 13:48 mark on hotstar - a very unsettling and weird clip breifly flashes on the screen and then disappears. After that the audio for the entire episode becomes distorted. Can be reproduced on their app/tv/website

Not sure if the fix should come from Firefox or Hotstar, but here’s how you can fix it for now:

1. Type about:config in the address bar
2. "Accept the Risk and Continue"
3. Search cookiestore
4. Toggle its value to false
5. Restart Firefox and open Hotstar - it should work again

JioHotstar website is currently broken on the latest version of Firefox. This is due to Firefox v136 introducing a new browser API called CookieStore, which enforces a 1024 byte cookie size limit and two of Hotstar’s cookies exceed this limit. I've got a temporary workaround 👇

Realtime AQI data is still being returned from AQI monitors in New Delhi and Chennai US embassies. Not sure for how much longer though.

AQI monitors at US embassies in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad appear to be dead.

Reddit is sending threats for upvoting posts now. Very normal behaviour

This was one of the few good sources for reliable AQI data in India.

The AirNow gov website that hosted this data is now dead. The historical data was on another domain which has also been wiped.

Wayback machine has only 12 csv files archived. Was anyone able to rescue more historical data?

just checked, one of the reasons why I didn't come across Quora links is because I added this filter to remove them from google search results (have the same for pinterest too)

uBlock Origin filter to remove those annoying anti tobacco warnings from prime video movies and tv shows (filter should work with other ad blockers too)

Heard about gail.com from Tom Scott's Lateral and I love that it exists.

They get millions of hits every year by people mispelling gmail and yet refuse to put an ad banner on their website.

Mad respect for them (especially for the last FAQ on their website)

with all the recent furore over wikipedia and its editors, I still can't believe this entry about a silly little game I made at the peak of the lockdown still exists on the actual wikipedia article on pmcares fund

I generally try to be forgiving and keep an open mind when trying new flavours, but this is disgusting

"permanently banned for his streetist way of debating"

the whole sheet is an extraordinary read. The orkut india community may have possibly figured out the whole social media content moderation thing years ago
February 4, 2025 at 5:22 AM
yes, it is! The mods of orkut india community weren't messing about! They kept very detailed and open receipts.
February 4, 2025 at 5:22 AM
wait, is this link still available? 🤔
February 4, 2025 at 5:22 AM
even though I may never find this guy, but wow, what a throwback to see some of these orkut communities again.

the general "India" country community was as expected a dumpster fire. Some things don't change
February 4, 2025 at 5:22 AM
I must find him and seek his opinion on my new website. It is only validation from him that matters to me now.

but the communities are not searchable and v slow to load! At this rate, it could take years to find the community and the post and his comment
