We had no way of knowing how much it would cost, because e.g. the surgery team charges *per minute* and they can *estimate* how long it's going to take, but can't promise anything (and in me they found a surprise hernia they needed to fix on the way out, which took longer)

Just shy of $2,000 out of pocket, between the $1,200+ to the hospital and the $690+ to the anesthesiologist.
But we met our deductible (our share of medical costs on top of the monthly premium), so everything until 12/31 is free. Deductible resets 1/1/26.

Meanwhile, up in Canada not only do you have all these shows & movies on broadcast TV, the gov't gives you a basic TV at birth. You can buy a fancier TV if you want to, but you don't have to, it's fine without it.

And some programs are free, because we made special laws about that, because they were necessary educational content, but other programs aren't included in the package at all, no matter what, because they're "optional," even when they're necessary for your life circumstances.

Think of it like Netflix, but instead of just paying a subscription fee every month, you also had to pay a wildly variable amount for every show or movie you wanted to watch, and sometimes you had to pay for the show AND the credits, and no one told you how much the fee was until afterward.

lol when we checked into a hotel on our last vacation, the front desk clerk asked Husband & I if it was ok if there was only 1 bed & I was like...I would prefer that, actually?...and she said she had assumed once that a brother & sister were married & booked them a one-bed room & now always asks.
