During the #Vietnamwar, newly arrived soldiers were referred to as Cherries. At least this is how it was in the infantry. I’ve heard other acronyms: FNG, Newbie and fresh meat. Click below to see what it was like for these young soldiers. cherrieswriter.com/2023/01/07/w...

Veterans of today say 'Cherries' could be their own story - just replace the jungle and rice paddies with sand, scorpions, fleas & camels. This, too, is a chance for family members to learn more about what many infantry soldiers faced in the #vietnamwar www.amazon.com/Cherries-Vie...

Another morning during the #vietnamwar when we were up and moving before the sun was up. All the open areas and helicopters made it difficult to sneak up on an enemy who knew which way we traveled. Here's one soldier's recollection of his patrols: cherrieswriter.com/2015/11/07/a...

I wondered how many more of us feel this way. Mr. Kuhn broaches the subject in a casual manner – like a discussion between two friends over a cup of coffee. How many of you are with us on this? bit.ly/46p22iP

In the rear areas, you could certainly tell the difference between a visiting grunt and those working on the post just by looking at their fatigues and boots. Even MP's had it tough: bit.ly/4fV8jb9

How many of you knew that the youngest American Soldier to be killed during the #VietnamWar was only 15 yrs. old? The minimum age for enlistment was 17 years-old with parental consent. How did this happen? wp.me/pRiEw-2mi

Way back before "e-mail" and "Facetime" were invented, the most treasured gift military personnel received was mail – a letter from home. Soldiers in the #Vietnamwar were ecstatic when hearing from family, but sometimes, the news hurt. What was it like? bit.ly/4idm6eB

This Kit Carson Scout, Nung, saved us on many occasions from booby-trapped trails, ambushes, and from walking into enemy base camps. Read about him in both "Cherries" and "Death in the Triangle". bit.ly/3D0pn0F

You can take the youth out of the soldier, but that old veteran today will gladly take up arms and help fight invaders if America was attacked. Read about our youth in the #Vietnamwar and witness what we had to endure to protect one another and survive. cherrieswriter.com/2016/10/18/w...

You’ve lost relationships, spent years of your lives in extreme conditions, years apart from kids you’ll never get back, and beaten your body in a way that people don’t understand. Then come home to a nation that doesn’t understand. To those who served! bit.ly/3CC8HMW

Friendly fire is an attack by a military force on non-enemy, own, allied or neutral forces while attempting to attack the enemy, either by misidentifying the target as hostile or due to errors or inaccuracy. How often did this occur in the #Vietnamwar? bit.ly/3AXZVbx

During the #Vietnamwar, it might have taken us 3 days to climb this jungle-covered mountain looking for the elusive enemy. Yet, from above, many said that it was a beautiful country & hard to fathom that we were in a war. More pics cherrieswriter.com/2019/03/11/v...
