As part of Operation Dewey Canyon, Marines build FSB Cunningham in the Ashau Valley near the Laotian border to stop the infiltration of enemy troops into South VN. The NVA wanted the camp destroyed and attacked. Here's a description of the battle: cherrieswriter.com/2012/02/13/s...

During the #Vietnamwar, newly arrived soldiers were referred to as Cherries. At least this is how it was in the infantry. I’ve heard other acronyms: FNG, Newbie and fresh meat. Click below to see what it was like for these young soldiers. cherrieswriter.com/2023/01/07/w...

In the rear areas, you could certainly tell the difference between a visiting grunt and those working on the post just by looking at their fatigues and boots. Even MP's had it tough: bit.ly/4fV8jb9

Way back before "e-mail" and "Facetime" were invented, the most treasured gift military personnel received was mail – a letter from home. Soldiers in the #Vietnamwar were ecstatic when hearing from family, but sometimes, the news hurt. What was it like? bit.ly/4idm6eB
