This Thursday, we'll be bringing this lovely show to St Nicholas Priory, in Exeter. And, as ever, it'll be adapted to celebrate local radical history and feature some guest artists from the area. The amazing location is an added bonus. 1/2

Hi all!

You might like to know about this project, if you’re in the Exeter area.

It’s a history of English protest told through folk music, and featuring local guest artists. Celebrate radical English history with a song, a dance, and maybe the start of the revolution!

Booking links etc below.

Well, it's out in the world! It was such a lovely and well-attended launch. After such a huge amount of work from SBTD’s Sustainable Design Working Group and all the other amazing people who contributed, it’s fantastic to see that level of support and interest from our community. 1/3

I’ve always said I never perform on stage unless I have a violin under my chin, but live video creation as part of Daedalus Theatre’s Dysbiosis project turns out to be quite a piece of physical theatre! Photos from our work-in-progress showing at the Omnibus Theatre last week by Devika Bilimoria.

Amazing to be part of this, helping ReStage develop collaborative R&D for modular sets. Days like today are exactly what we need: getting people together with time to dig into details and work stuff out. Big thanks to Sara, Paul et al. ReStage is such an exciting initiative. (Photos: Sara Turnbull)

Fantastic May Day gig in Brighton with all the leftie solidarity and queerness you could wish for. Such a privilege to be the fiddler for so much joyful dancing.

I needed a break from spreadsheets earlier today, so here’s a tune I learnt at an impromptu folk session around 1am sometime last year at the Centre for Alternative Technology. It’s called The Pride of Petravore.

This is the kind of thing I would’ve dismissed as neoliberal business as usual a few years ago but now my first thought is, ‘Phew, a bulwark against US fascism!’ (Although it still is neoliberal business as usual, and it’s still harming planet and people).

Can anyone tell me what I just saw?

Bluebells and apple blossom.

February is the time to bring the D’Arcy Spice out of storage. Picked in the Autumn, they’re an old, local variety of russet - probably my favourite type of apple. And of course they taste absolutely amazing. Who needs champagne and fine dining when you have a community orchard?

When the only way to get a family picture is to organise an exhibition… Seriously though, it’s great. Come see it. It’s on for another week. mailchi.mp/593c4b3fc7a1...

I'm listening to this as an audiobook, and I love it so much that I bought a paper copy for my parents. It’s an absolute treasure trove of deep thinking about Nature connection, our relationship with the countryside, cultural engagement with the more-than-human world and lots, lots more.

I’m loving Bluesky but I’m still unsure what if anything I have to offer. Perhaps it’s more of a space for me to learn. I’m certainly following some brilliant people.

In the meantime, it’s clearly a very safe space for fungus photos.

It was so wonderful to celebrate this community storytelling project with these lovely people. Here’s a bit of backstory.

Well, that was joyful. Thank you to everyone who came! Since Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year, announced today, is ‘manifesting’, I am now manifesting funding to be able to run creative nature workshops like this every week. At least.

Finally (maybe), photographers should be credited! My profile photo is by Orlando Myxx. It’s from Deptford Pride a few years back and I’m performing as part of The Black Smock Band. Here’s the original plus some other pics by Orlando from the same event. Is there much #FolkMusic chat here?

My dad’s the painter Alan Burgess and he has an exhibition on at the moment. I may be biased but, you know, I think it’s pretty good. (Link with details below).

Also, many people in the Harlow area don’t know this fantastic gallery exists. Word needs to be spread, please!
