Science’s big problem is a loss of influence, not a loss of trust, argue Heidi Larson and David Bersoff

Science & scientists remain highly trusted. But genuine scientific voices are not shouting loud enough over the noise to hold sway

They were prepared to think through annexing Greenland and Canada, but this was a step too far for The Economist.
Donald Trump has committed the most profound, harmful and unnecessary economic error in the modern era. Almost everything he said—on history, economics and the technicalities of trade—was utterly deluded econ.st/3YbbFjq

Labour is upping the ante on anti-migrant politics just to learn that Farage & the Tories can always, always go further than them.

It’s real people who are caught in the crossfire of politicians trying to outdo each other on toughness.

Excellent explainer by @philipcball.bsky.social on why now more than ever scientists need to resist the logic of "anticipatory obedience" www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...
Scientific institutions have a long history of anticipatory obedience
Societies should learn from this and speak up to support inclusion

Inreased raids and deportations don't "tackle gangs". They do penalize victims though. Throw in the grotesque PR, and inevitably Labour pushes more people underground, makes them more fearful of authorities, and therefore increase risk of exploitation #r4today 1/
