Thanks to Mayor Wilson for joining us this morning!
November 14, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Investment from Mayor Wilson’s 2025-26 budget gave PBOT the opportunity to rebuild the program, including expanding into East Portland. PBOT crews continue to sweep 1,000 miles of major arterial streets 6 to 8 times per year as well as protected bike lanes several times per year.
November 14, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Every year, PBOT’s Leaf Day service helps us provide cleaner, safer streets, keep our storm drains clear, ensuring our intersections don’t flood. This year, PBOT added 29 new zones. Historically, PBOT had to cut residential street sweeping citywide.
November 14, 2025 at 8:32 PM
He said so himself that PBOT crews are the professionals, skilled at making sure they get all the way to curb, picking up every last leaf. Streets so clean you could eat off them (but don’t though).
November 14, 2025 at 8:32 PM
The mayor tried his hand at both driving the street sweeper (don’t worry, he has his CDL!) and controlling the brushes that help pick up the leaves.
November 14, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Mayor Wilson joined PBOT Director Millicent Williams, Public Works Deputy City Administrator Priya Dhanapal, and PBOT staff in NE Portland while crews picked up leaves as part of the city’s Leaf Day Service.

This year, on Nov. 16, communities across the globe, including in the United States, will gather together to demand actions to improve roadway safety and uplift proven strategies, including redesigning dangerous streets, reducing speed limits, improving vehicle design, and advancing safety policies.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a global event held every year to honor those who have lost their lives or been impacted by roadway crashes.
November 13, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Join us with the event host @pdx-fss.bsky.social – along with support from Oregon Walks, @bikeloudpdx.bsky.social, 1000 Friends of Oregon, & @thestreettrust.org – this Sunday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to noon at Luuwit View Park to honor those who have been killed in traffic violence on our streets.
November 13, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Every year, traffic crashes kill dozens of individuals and devastate families, friends, loved ones, and neighbors in our community. We mourn those whose lives were cut short. Traffic deaths are unacceptable. We can and must do better.

If your Leaf Zone is in Northwest, Southwest, or Sullivan's Gulch - these are tow zones. This means moving your vehicle is required or you will be towed.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Help your neighbors. People still work from home in large numbers, with vehicles parked longer. Check in with your neighbors so everyone remembers to move their vehicles on Leaf Day.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Move vehicles and other objects (like basketball hoops) off the street. Whenever possible, allow plenty of clearance between your pile and anything left parked on the street.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Make sure you trim any low-hanging tree limbs over the street, leaving 11 feet of clearance, so our equipment can get as close to the curb as possible and get the best clean. Put branches, twigs, and pinecones in yard debris bins, not in the street.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Do not rake or blow leaves into the street more than a day before your Leaf Day. Leaf Day service may have started, however, service runs until January this year. Leaves piled up for months are a hazard for pedestrians, people biking, and people getting in and out of parked cars.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
One day before your Leaf Day, rake loose leaves that you want picked up into the street. Keep one foot of space between your pile and the curb for storm runoff and to make it easier for our sweepers.
November 6, 2025 at 10:24 PM
PBOT's Leaf Day service has begun. While some neighborhoods are already getting swept, others are still months away. Find a few reminders below to help you get the most out of Leaf Day service 👇

Slow down, lights on!

Last year, 83% of traffic deaths occurred from dusk to dawn. The rain decreases visibility even more. As we head into the darkest and rainiest months of the year, make sure to drive with your lights on and slow down!

The rain is here Portland, and it's the perfect time to brush up on your winter biking skills! Join PBOT's Portland By Cycle team for an All Season Cycling workshop this Friday, Nov. 7 from 3 - 5 p.m. at Woodstock Library.

When drains get clogged with fallen leaves and other debris, it leads to dangerous ponding along city streets and intersections. PBOT crews work hard to keep more than 58,000 storm drains clear but with so many, we can’t get to them all.
November 4, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Today's dry sunny weather is great weather for clearing a storm drain ahead of the next storm heading our way.

Portland’s storm drains, also known as catch basins, help with stormwater runoff and prevent flooding.
November 4, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Remember to:
- Slow down and travel at or below the speed limit - slower speeds lower the risk of crashes
- Take care when making turns and approaching crosswalks
- Always turn on headlights
- Maintain a safe distance between vehicles

Last year, 83% of traffic deaths last year occurred in darker conditions (which includes dusk, nighttime, and dawn). Of all pedestrian deaths last year, 86% occurred in darker conditions. These trends are consistent with traffic safety research.
