Oh look! A shadow minister is demanding that a government minister resign. It must be a day that ends in the letter 'Y'.

We've reached a pivotal moment in our history when we either defend the institutions that underpin our democratic values, or undermine them in an attempt to appease those who can NEVER be appeased by anything other than total capitulation to their worldview, be they domestic or foreign.

Can't believe the Trump administration prefers the news channel on which Nigel Farage is a presenter over the BBC.

It seems a tad ironic, given all the accusations of BBC bias flying around, that one person who hasn't resign is Robbie Gibb. Lest we forget... Emily Maitlis described him as an "active Conservative Party agent" within the BBC.

Imagine a world where Liz Truss and her fellow far-right travellers in the Conservative Party and Reform UK are in charge of the country. You think the media is biased now? Just wait and see...

The BBC to a large extent made Nigel Farage with his incredibly frequent appearances on BBC Question Time and, of course, it's come back to bite them. It always does when any institution or body tries to appease the far-right.

"No more of this 'I can't interfere - it's independent' nonsense."

The more Liz Truss imparts her pearls of wisdom, the more I feel the price the country paid for her catastrophic maladministration was worth it, if only because it ensures she will never be in the seat of power again.

When Kemi Badenoch says parts of the BBC must be "brought under urgent control" and that its "coverage needs a full overhaul" and output must no longer be "shaped by a cabal of ideological activists", what she actually means is that it must pass the Elon Musk/Grok seal of approval.

Could someone arrange for you to be interviewed by Emma Barnett on the Today programme? She may need some smelling salts.

Great thread, George. I was very struck by this speech at the time, which sums up the fragility of a relatively benign status quo, so easily taken for granted.

As petrol cars are displaced by EVs, pay-per-mile becomes inevitable. Not sure if this budget is when it will happen – the Telegraph isn't exactly a reliable news source, nowadays – but if it is that's something to be welcomed, imo.
