Amazing! The support goes up to 86% if you remove the don't knows! This is a great mandate for SPT to be ambitious.

Yet so much of our public realm prioritises the private car. Despite it being the most ineffective way of moving people about. Why it has taken so long for change to happen and why that change is happening at a snails pace is beyond me but at least it's a start.

To add to this, public transport drives the economy. Even if you ignore the human element, it drives productive behaviours. I can't understand why everyone in the political sphere isn't bending over backwards to resolve this problem.

Travelling from Amsterdam to Paris today on the Eurostar. Spent a lot of time cycling around and using the trams in Amsterdam which was fantastic. Everyone is so relaxed here including the car drivers, never heard an angry toot or any windshield remonstrance.

I reported this close pass by a bus on Maryhill Rd recently using this system. I got visited and gave a statement but they were unable to do anything as they said the driver would argue that I was the one who closed the gap (??)

It's the big one today for my series on Substack, we're getting to the bottom of why buses in Scotland are so bad.

You can read it here

I'll be publishing a series of articles this week on my Substack on just why Scotland's buses are in such a state. Subscribe for free to receive them straight to your inbox.

A hairy incident with a bus on Maryhill Road the other day. If anyone had been exiting one of those parked cars I'd have been a goner. You can see the light change to red as I pass through so almost certain that they jumped a red as well.

A lot of what you discuss about underperforming UK cities also covered in a report by Centre for Cities commissioned by Get Glasgow Moving. Definitely worth a read. It does discuss comparisons within the UK as well as Glasgow's wider European peers.

High-speed rail in China last September. We went from Beijing to Xi'An in about 4 hours which is roughly the straight-line distance from John O'Groats to Lands End. The external temperature got up to 38 degrees before we got off 🔥🥵

I did remember! It's right in some bushes to the left of two tall Norway spruces.

A Glasgow Corporation Lucy box at the top of Byers road. Used to isolate electricity from the tram network. This one is a rare example which has a phone on top.

Roughly here. Unfortunately there's no street view to show it more clearly. If you go rooting about the bushes there you're sure to find it. If I remember I'll go looking on Monday.

The two Glasgow City council by-election results. Despite the same outcome, quite contrasting fortunes for the smaller parties between the two wards.

Some great initiatives highlighted in SPT's draft Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy particularly the West Midlands Workwise scheme. Hopefully something they will emulate once they have franchised the bus network.

What branding could a franchised bus network in Glasgow use? Would we go back to our roots or find new livery for a fresh start? I hope the public are involved in the design process whenever it is initiated.

The new consultation from Transport Scotland is utterly dreadful with some options greyed out in several questions. The solutions to increase public transport usage are already known with extensive consultations. Fund bus franchising for local authorities! @fionahyslop.bsky.social

Quite a contrast to the weather today! Here's a cormorant on the Clyde at Glasgow Green

Very wet morning yesterday outside SPT reminding them of the urgent need to improve our buses following the publication of the draft Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy. The SRBS can be found here: spt.production.d8.studio/media/pxabtb...

Went to the @newglasgowsociety.bsky.social immigrant exhibition this afternoon. It's beautifully presented and mixes humour and heart-rending sadness perfectly. It's a very moving experience.
