Amazing. Let’s get starship and new Glenn up to speed and start building in the future up there. Just don’t fly through the microwave laser.

Pretty wild that SpaceX was able to catch this thing again. The upper stage went 💥, but this was pretty impressive. And just this morning Blue Origin got to orbit. Yesterday payloads to the moon. Heating up.

Wild that Blue Origin 🐢 and SpaceX 🐇 are both launching this Friday. The New Glenn rocket is a LONG time coming. Big day for the titans of the space industry. And for humanity? It’s hard not to be excited, but it’s also been tainted for me with the political 💩

I’m noticing a lot of AI backlash here on @bsky.app. Very different that what I’m seeing on other platforms. Can someone break down the thinking?

Anyone else overly excited for the new episode of Star Wars Skeleton Crew tonight? Stranger Things meets Goonies meets, original Star Wars vibes? My son and I are pumped.

The two dots in the lower right are gas giant 🪐s orbiting the thing that looks like the eye of Sauron in the middle. Incredible 🤩 Seems the other things are stars? Looks like 🪐s but the article says just two gas giants.

I was having a discussion with some coworkers and remembered a very useful concept for making gesture systems more stable: “Hysteresis”. A good example is a thermostat which might turn on when the temperature gets down to 66 but then not turn off again once the temperature gets above 69.

A good perspective on the future and past of NASA. Sounds like SpaceX was successful because of government backing. Same as Tesla IMO. Was that a bad thing at the time? Seems like it will be now that the private industry is taking over the public space, creating a massive conflict of interest.
Since it doesn't seem that many people are talking about the appointment of Issacman to be the NASA Administrator or if they do it seems to be weirdly positive, I thought I'd go on a little rant about it. This is not positive. In fact, it couldn't actually be much worse for NASA....

How do we fix surveillance capitalism?

They have seen my film, but didn’t understand it. You can’t fix surveillance capitalism by improving its UX.

I passed my first flight test in Flight Simulator yesterday. I felt more proud of myself than think I should have. Maybe it’s because I’m in VR and I’m actually pressing all the “real” buttons. I don’t know how transferable this all is to the real world, but I feel like I could fly a real plane now.

I think I’ll give this a read. I’ve written design fiction in the past, but never studied how. For me it’s helped me explore new social dynamics and unintended outcomes of tech mashups. Thanks for posting @scottstein.bsky.social

Resonance ball, cool.
(1/3) This is 660 metric-ton tuned mass damper or as I like to call it a "gravity ball." It's job is to absorb mechanical energy and reduce vibrations. This one, in the Taipei 101 building, protects the building against typhoons and earthquakes. #Science #Engineering #Taipei #Physics 🧪⚛️🧵
