NYCFC's own Maximo Carrizo with the start and the armband for the USA.

5 of the 11 (Hall, Carrizo, Berchimas, Cupps, and Sanchez) have made full MLS debuts already.

Even weirder is Parks taking a 55% pay cut between 2024 and 2025 apparently?

I think this is pretty good quality for a TAM player!

This seems crazy low for both. Didn't Freese just sign an extension?

This quote gives me pause, though it’s not Sogut saying it - for pretty much every great MLS team the foundation is domestic, and DC’s foundation is basically condemned at this point.

You can’t fix it by going abroad, no matter how good your contacts are. You have to start at home.

Brian Gutierrez decided to have the best game by Net G+ of his entire career last night, and the best performance by a CM in as far back as G+ goes. (of course the positional definitions are a little fuzzy, but still)

I'm not convinced that optimizing set pieces necessarily reduces open play scoring. I think the dip in open play scoring could be due to a different cause, such as teams defending differently. While open play passes are down, dead balls aren't necessarily up:

Not sure when this was added but SofaScore now has what appears to be a genuine, live expected possession model built into their app. That’s a pretty big step forward.

I have been working on a new USA Soccer stat hub for a couple of months now in Tableau, as I grew increasingly dissatisfied with what I put together at the start of 2025. It's *finally* ready for public consumption. The images here don't show the half of it:

If I were an MLS team in the market for an 8, I think Leo Walta at IK Sirius might be on the top of my list. He's not really a true 10, though, and he might be a little too expensive to pry out of Sweden without a DP deal.

Seymour Reid makes Doyle's "just missed the cut list", and I wanted to add a little context on this snippet.

Reid loses value on his receiving simply for not getting on the ball in the box, and if you watch him you can see he's a little hesitant making his runs in that area. Needs to improve.

I tried to get Gemini to convert the official FIFA Squad List into a csv for me, and it came out with some wild hallucinations - including an entire Slovakia team that didn't qualify, and this almost correct but not quite list of American players:

I wrote WAY too much on where the U20 USYNT stands heading into the U20 World Cup, one of my favorite tournaments. Part 1 is out now; part 2 is coming in a few days, and covers the other groups in the tournament:

There are a lot of really good U22 players! Here's what my ballot would be if I had one. With the U22s you have to balance guys who have been consistently productive, guys with good numbers but low minutes, and of course throw a couple very young but promising players in for good measure.
