Finally, a sincere word of thanks to President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina for their hugely successful two terms.

As Emoter-in-Chief, personification of our national conscience and collective values, we have been well served by the fearless lyrical MDH.

Genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression. Whatever label, dehumanising people and indifference leads to evil and inhumane conduct.
This episode is worth a listening to even if only to keep the fragile spark of hope alive. #PPP

Haven't done one of these for a while. Thoroughly recommend the TRIP 'Leading' interview by Alastair Campbell & Rory Stewart with social psychologist, Jonathan Haidt.

More wisdom from the aforementioned wise woman....

"we do need leadership. But we also need followership. Everybody can't be a leader, you know. We'll be a leader in different aspects of the lives that we lead. But we also need really excellent followers. You can't be a leader without followers."

A wise woman recently observed that the so-called 'Soft Skills' are the hardest to teach, learn and assess.

In the context of the 'art & science' of medicine, medical education is great at teaching the latter (notwithstanding the explosion in scientific knowledge), not so much the former.?

Great nuggets of wisedom from two supreme communicators including perhaps a new Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs for the 21stC. Sandwiched between security/absence of threat and self-actualisation it would seem that values of decency, empathy, hope, truth and accountability are essential needs. #PPP

Yet though he leaves, his name will live,
In every cheer, in a' we give.
For Furuhashi, our thanks are deep,
In Celtic hearts, we'll always keep.

In Paradise, where Bhoys do play,
Furuhashi's joy will never stray.
For in the stands, we’ll sing his name,
Even to Brendan's disdain!

But if he walks throu' a French storm,
His heid up high, above the norm.
He'll ne'er be afraid aboot the dark,
Cos he once played at Celtic Park.

An' Glasgae's barbers, ye’ll miss him true,
For no man sported a finer view,
Of hair well-kept and styled with care,
His custom gone, a sad despair.

But fate, it seems, must take its toll, Now Rennes shall hold the boy who stole.
The Celtic faithful’s hearts will ache,
For Kyogo, we bid fareweel, for sake.

O’ the goals he scored, both sharp and bright,
A beacon o' the Hoops’ delight.
Against the Gers, he’d strike with ease,
A Hun-skelpin roar the Tims would tease.

For the day that's in it....

Epitaph for Furuhashi

There goes a lad o' Japan’s far land,
A striker small but quick and grand.
At Parkhead's gates he came with cheer,
And filled our hearts wi' joy sincere.

This week's podcast pick is the infinitely positive Elizabeth Day interviewing the infinitely wise Kirsty Young on 'How to fail..'.

Sometimes Ms Day's need to relate to her guest can seem like saccharine-infused people-pleasing. Then I rem that this is probably more a reflection on my [1/4]
