In the lull between the polling and the declaration of results, it is inevitable that the spin machine is in overdrive.

For me, the key messages from this election:

1. This has been a landslide win for Catherine Connolly.
She ran a positive, dignified and presidential campaign.

Not quite a year ago, I gave you a gentle prompt to check out @nialler9.com and @andreacleary.bsky.social podcast. I hope that you took my sage advice.
Alas comes the news that with Episode 300, this great podcasting duo have come to their co-presenting conclusion.
But what a way to sign off!
Obstensibly a music podcast, the Nialler9 consistently gives great music but also so much more. Sure Niall will educate you on the subtleties of Italo Disco. Andrea will convert you to the one true religion of Fr John Misty. You'll never be more hipster being ahead of the latest big thing. [1/]

The other thing that I take from the #Áras25 debates, is the futility of the entire debate format. The President role won't ever require the incumbent to debate. Instead, it requires them to be able to articulate a compelling vision for the country. Emoter-in-chief.

This #Áras25 Presidential debate is a close run thing. Neck & neck, indeed.
While Kieran Cuddihy performed well, methinks Áine Lawlor nailed it with her ceist as gaeilge.

When the lead candidate is next & neck with undecided, then you'd have to be very cautious about this 'Ireland hasn't yet thought' poll.
Helpfully there's another TV debate win the hour to make this poll obsolete. #Aras25

The presumption (not unreasonable given it is one of the routes to nomination) is that the field of Presidential candidates should be assembled by political parties.
Anyone putting themselves forward as an independent is immediately dawbed with the indelible 'crackpot' sign.
