Quiet for moths as expected but did get peppered moth, figure of 80, miller + an, as yet, unidentified pug

Double whammy of mothing and nocmig (recorder hanging in bag above) tonight in Northumberland.

Not great conditions with a strong wind and clear skies but I brought it all the way here so I may as well give it a try 🤞

Superb visit to the Farnes as always.

Arctic terns are always the highlight on Inner Farne but the sheer variety of seabirds is so special.

Even managed to catch up with the now famous Maleider (mallard x eider hybrid) in Seahouses Harbour 🤣

Very cool to see all the emerging dragonflies through the thermal imager.
All the bright dots perched and flying are dragonflies

Really cool afternoon at North Warren yesterday.
2 bittern, cuckoo, garden warbler, Dartford warbler & woodlark on the heath.

Amazing to see a massive emergence of 4-spot chaser dragonflies & at least 4 hobbies hunting them at close range. Bit too fast for decent pics though

Been checking all the likely looking spots across the marsh for temmincks stints, following the recent influx locally, but with no luck
It was a surprise then to find one this morning in the unlikely location of an inland plastic-lined irrigation resevoir!
3 common sand present too

For the 3rd year running the same pair of mute swans have produced a 'Polish' morph youngster.

This year, 2 of the 9 cygnets are buff coloured instead of the 'normal' grey

An excellent day of wader productivity monitoring on the marsh.

Despite the rapidly drying conditions, where there is still some water and cover, it was good to see lapwing and redshank young appearing.

Hopefully we'll get some rain soon to top everything up 🙏

If you hadn't already guessed the mystery chicks are stone curlews 🙂

Farmland bird monitoring this afternoon. Great to find the 1st successful scarce farmland bird nest of the season.

2 day-old chicks in the pic, just shows how vulnerable they are!!

Nest has been monitored throughout the season to prevent disturbance and damage

Can you find & identify...

Nosey buggers!!

They have a massive area to graze but oh no, let's spent our days messing with their cameras 🤣🤣🤣

Some superb looking habitat on the reserve this afternoon.

The skies the limit but crakes, rails & stilts immediately spring to mind 🙏

I love this one as you can see some cool behaviour.
The female removes the hatched eggshell and takes it away from the nest to distract potential predators

We use remote cameras for many different uses across the reserve with nest monitoring one of the key ones in the spring.

This brood of lapwings hatched out yesterday morning, the first of the season 🐣

Then onto the RSPB reserve which was just as quiet.

The mobile black winged still appeared in front of us and performed well 🙂
1st reed warblers of the year + bittern, yellow wag, cattle egret and my first marsh frogs.
