London-Irish novelist and screenwriter. Here for bookish/arty/screenwriterly connections, laughs, ideas, chat and did I say laughs? Yes I wear pink shirts a shade too bright and too often. Nobody’s perfect.
I don’t agree with destroying her either. I just think she should not be part of the party forming the government of this country that contains millions upon millions of Irish people and their descendants. Her downplaying of centuries of explicit anti-Irish English racism is deeply offensive to me.

But Diane in her original letter says they didn’t suffer racism at all. Which is not how it felt to my Mum I can tell you as she brought it up only recently still bewildered and humiliated by it, 70 years later. But you know best June.

You’re obviously not someone who’s ever been told ‘You look so Irish’ then June. Door opened or door closed, it’s still racism in every possible respect. I don’t see the point in creating hierarchies of dehumanising disrespect.

As the son of Irish parents who were turned away from rooms in Birmingham by signs saying No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish’ I found Ms Abbott’s original comments deeply wrong, ignorant and offensive. You want to see the 19th monkey portraits too? I hope they throw the book at her Robin.

I can see a time in 5 years where there will no undergraduate degrees in Stem subjects? What’s the point? When AI does it all. Whereas English, history, philosophy…

You were always brilliant together. A Spanish literature genius and an Astro-physicist. A match made for a lifetime.
Remembering much joy, laughter and scary conversations. Very very very sad. Much love Richard. Px

And they’ll have destroyed it with 20th century reductionist thinking in a 22nd century world. The short-sighted fools.
