One of my favorite things about writing a newsletter is that it's also my reading journal. For instance, last month I was happily surprised by @gwillow.me and MK Perker's graphic novel The Stoneshore Register. You'll get similar brief thoughts on my reading life in every issue.

But...but I was informed in a very popular meme that everyone having free access to assault weapons was the best and only way to eliminate feral hogs?

Respectfully, text scammers, you really need to try a little harder.

And this is from my longest walk of the year-my May 3rd 60.4 miler around Lake Washington. I’m sure I was down to two miles an hour by the end, but as long as I stay upright and in motion I get there eventually.

I do maybe 3.5 miles/hour, but I probably drop below 3/hour by the end. It’s just devoting a lot of time to it and not stopping very often. This is my Apple Fitness Exercise graph from yesterday—started at 6 am and ended around 8:30. I stopped a lot more often than usual for food & bookstores.

I wrote about it for the Seattle Times a few years back. But it’s mostly just keeping up a weekly practice, even if you can only do a few miles sometimes. King County publishes great maps of local trails…

Today’s walk: I did the Subdued Saunter, a 20-mile walk around Bellingham, and then I just kept walking. Some amazing trails up here that I’d never walked before. Also some great Little Free Libraries, and some great ice cream shops. Beautiful city, beautiful day. 67,809 steps, 32.4 miles.

Yesterday’s walk: I hate walking in big groups but I liked the idea of the Eastside Escapade, so I walked downtown, took the bus to Bellevue, and walked the route early. As always, the best part is the Lake Sammamish Trail. 55,392 steps, 30.4 miles. www.seattlesupersaunter.com/the-eastside...

Hey, uh, does anyone know what these vehicles are doing on 520, by the Microsoft campus? Sorry about the video quality—recorded from my bus window.

Every single one of these AI-slop subway ads that I’ve seen has been defaced, and honestly? Good.
[BRAND REDACTED] is obviously trying to be edgy and future-forward, but most of the graffiti correctly identifies that really they’re just too cheap to hire real artists.

Yes! The Democratic consulting class has twisted “the kitchen table” to mean “the altar around which suburban centrist independents gather to solely discuss rising prices and the increasing burdens of the regulatory state.” It’s weird and out of touch with reality.

Today’s walk: Took a bus to Renton and then walked north on the Lake Washington Loop. By the time I arrived in Bellevue at 11 it was 80 degrees, which is close to my upper limit, so I headed home. 33,357 steps, 18 miles.
