I have just bought a copy based on these recommendations!

One of Bristol's best kept secrets: Beese's cafe, where they send a ferry across the river to pick you up for coffee and cake (or a pint). Easy to forget you're still technically in the city.

Who wouldn't be tempted to travel to see the pring blossom in Tlemcen, Algeria, after seeing this 1929 tourism poster painted by Léon Carré?

I'm loving this glorious 1959 poster by artist Jean Fortin, advertising Air France flights to Morocco.

Mick McMahon's best cover for Titan? My money has to go to The Cursed Earth part two. Those dinosaurs! Those colours!

For no particular reason, here's a stained glass window of Bob Marley as St George, about to slay the racist dragon of Babylon. Taken at his house at Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica.

So, I got the government's emergency warning – now I have to start building a shelter in my front room and wrap the bodies in black bin liners for collection, yes?

I have the zoomed out version of that South Georgia beach! St Andrews Bay – what a place.

Thrilled to get a copy of @monisharajesh.bsky.social's new book 'Moonlight Express' - and even more so to be in conversation with her about it at Stanfords Bristol on 30 September!

Secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others, David. God knows self care is important in these times.

Sick of all the transphobic bullshit in the media, so I'm in the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery to remind myself that yes, there is kindness in this world. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Progs 181 & 182: with that Ezquerra/Bolland double hit, how could I resist? My brother had some older issues - I loved The Cursed Earth, ABC Warriors and Flesh 2 - but Meltdown Man was the first story I ever thought of as my own.

At M Shed in Bristol, which is always wonderful, but it will never not be shocking to see your own personal life experiences as museum exhibits.

Had to cancel a trip to London at the last minute, so am treating myself to a day in cafes writing instead. Feels glorious.

@twirlynoodle.com Hello, I've just tried to contact you through the Worst Journey website, but there seems to be some kind of tech issue. Can I DM you please? It's for an interview request. Our mutual friend @tchotchke.bsky.social can vouch for me (I hope!) Thanks 🙏

The 1000 years refers to Saint Wulfstan, who abolished the slave trade between Bristol and Ireland. He was one of the only Anglo-Saxon bishops to retain his position after the Norman Conquest, and oversaw the Domesday Book in Bristol. He should be better celebrated in his city!

I love Baalbek! It's also an amazing venue when they have their annual music festival – I loved going when we lived in Beirut.

But surely no one would ever take some half-finished former Beatles demos, reimagine them with modern technology and try to pass them off as the real thing? What a preposterous idea.

Years ago I visited the National War Museum in Umuhaia in Se Nigeria, once home of the Voice of Biafra radio station. Among the displays was a Cessna of the Biafran Air Force with its hand-dropped bombs, and NNS Bonny patrol boat, formerly HMS Gifford (built 1954). A strange, fascinating place.

I'm still waiting for these bad boys to come out...

I found a 1957 book of old photos of Bristol, and it has this extraordinary newspaper cutting about growing up in extreme poverty in the 1890s, when there was still coal mining in the city. The street where the shoeless children got poor relief is now one of Bristol's gentrified hipster hangouts.
