Good morning! Back in the hot seat with Susanna this Tuesday.

Plenty to discuss as PM insists he’ll lead Labour into the next election; Labour MPs express disgust at Home Secretary’s immigration announcements and celebs eat all things indescribable in the jungle…

NEW: 65 peers have written to all lords urging them not to block the bill.

“It is not our role to frustrate the clear democratic mandate” of the Commons.

Excl: The driver of the train who made the emergency stop in Huntingdon, Andrew Johnson, told ITV News tonight that he was “just doing my job”.

But he surely saved lives.

He says the member of LNER staff still in hospital with life-threatening injuries “was the brave one”.

In Rayner’s resignation letter she accepts she has fallen short of the highest standards expected of ministers, if unintentionally.

“For a teenage mum from a council estate in Stockport to serve as the highest level of government has been the honour of my life.”
September 5, 2025 at 11:27 AM
In PM’s very personal - and handwritten - letter, he says Rayner has been a trusted colleague and friend, but that it’s right for her to resign.

He says she is the embodiment of social mobility and signs off with “real sadness” that she’s having to leave his government.
September 5, 2025 at 11:24 AM
NEW: Here is the full verdict from the PM’s ethics advisor.

- Rayner acted with “integrity”, but..

- She did not seek *expert* tax advice

- As such she must take responsibility for failing to pay enough stamp duty

- She therefore fell short of standards and broke ministerial code

Seeing as someone else started this trivial commentary back in February, I’d just like to add that Zelensky is one of the best dressed leaders on the planet. Look at that fit 👌

BREAKING: President Putin lavishes flattery on President Trump, saying if Trump had been President instead of Biden then the war in Ukraine would not have happened.

Trump says there’s been progress but ceasefire “not quite there” and “there’s no deal until there’s a deal”.

This must be an impossible image for Ukrainians to look at.

The US president applauding and joking with the man accused of illegally slaughtering their fellow countrymen, women and children.

Putin must be in his element.

A *third* of the Commons has called on the PM to recognise Palestine as a state. Never seen anything quite like this.

The building opposite Labour HQ has been covered with a large scene of devastation from Gaza, in protest at both the war and the approach to protest in the UK.

A tear just rolled down the Chancellor’s cheek at #PMQs as the PM refuses to answer whether or not she’ll stay in her job.

Hayfever, or something else?
