There should be a rule.

“If you need to use a helicopter to visit a food bank, don’t visit the food bank.”

This rule should apply to everyone - visitors or users.

Your reminder that they didn’t just fail, but the there was an actual PM who thought that child abuse investigations was akin to “spaffing money up the wall”.

Boris Johnson: Historical Child Abuse Investigation Is "Spaffing Money Up The Wall"
Boris Johnson has said that spending police budgets on historical child abuse is "spaffing money up the wall".

When I saw the photo, my first thought was that he looks like he’s lost his “precious”.

😂😂

lol. I don’t.

But that individual would have spent time becoming a frog breed expert. Educated themselves on amphibians and acquired their collection through dedication and knowledge.

Agency in their pride.

I think you’re getting it at last.

I just don’t get how someone can feel such a sense of accomplishment for being a “white British man” over anything else they may have achieved.

It seems sad to me that someone feels such pride in things they had no influence over.

Useful unpacking of the poll here:

bsky.app/profile/monk...
That is quite some headline
@dailymail.co.uk…..

Does the poll “predict” that Starmer will be out of No 10 within a year?

I’m sure you know the answer already, but indulge me while a do a small 🧵looking at what the poll ACTUALLY shows!

1/17

Flags. Skin colour. Location of birth.

Other things you have no agency over - but, apparently as as adult, would seem to engender a feeling of pride.

I have no control over whether I have a nose.

How can I be “proud” of something I have zero agency in having or being? Like being British and white.

The only reason I could think you could think that these are reasons to feel pride is if you have literally nothing else achieved to be proud of.

I love friends.
I love family.
I’m not sure I can extend “love” to a piece of fabric.
Still, takes all sorts!

Not sure who benefits from people being proud of something that they had no agency in.

I’m proud to have a nose! Yay me.
January 5, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Would you be proud of someone who won the lottery?
January 5, 2025 at 4:59 PM
Just baffled how anyone can be proud of something that they had no agency in, and that is simply an accident of where you were born.
January 5, 2025 at 4:56 PM
The last but one PM wasn’t born in Britain!

You literally proudly declare you’re a “white man” in your bio.

And seem unsure whether someone not white who was born here is indigenous.

But ok.
January 5, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Still dodged the question.
But nice way of using research to say, “I think the UK should be white” without saying “I think the UK should be white”. Well done.
January 5, 2025 at 3:19 PM
“Indigenous Brits”?
Saxons? Pagans? French?
Or is this secret code for “white”?

Also, how can “patriots” support trashing all the British things I listed? You missed that from your response.
January 5, 2025 at 10:14 AM
Hilariously these “patriots” are now claiming Charles isn’t their king, the government (following a democratic election) need removing, people who were born here need deporting, and that a foreign billionaire should be allowed to influence our politics.

They just “care”, right?
January 4, 2025 at 11:21 PM
That may have been the case when people thought that if they didn’t see it in theatres they’d have to wait 6 months to see the movie.

With a 4 week window, if you go after week 2, you’re into single-digit days to being able see the movie at home.

Many more will turn away from theatres.
