Enjoying the little things in life — like the first flowers of spring, a good cup of cafezinho, and amino acid side chains fitting perfectly into a nice map.

When particles have orientation bias, the resulting maps are often streaked along the missing directions. In this case study, we cover why orientation bias produces anisotropic #cryoEM maps and how you may be able to recover from it!

Today in colonial Paleontology, German collectors illegally bought a Brazilian fossil but where duped into thinking it was rarer than it was, so they sent it to a Museum, which named it “Irritator” (cuz it’s irritating to be scammed in your illegal purchases). Now Germany refuses to repatriate it.
Have you heard the story of the Brazilian dinosaur Irritator challengeri? 🦖🇧🇷

This dinosaur, a relative of Spinosaurus from the Cretaceous of northeastern Brazil 🌵🇧🇷, had its fossil remains taken to Germany 🇩🇪 — and that’s where they remain to this day.
Let’s talk about it? ⚒️🧪 #IrritatorBelongstoBR
