As far as musician biopics go, it could have been a lot worse. In the end, it's a straightforward character study about a man who wanted to secure a legacy that would reach beyond and change the art movement he was attached to.

From what I've seen, it's unclear whether they used AI to replace all of Brody's Hungarian dialogue or if they used it to touch up specific pronunciations which sounded inauthentic.

I feel like the story's direction is heavily restricted by the filmmakers' choice to almost only use POV shots throughout; and this reminded me a lot of 1917, a film which I think suffers from a similar problem.

The character-writing is really solid. A lot of them feel distinct and real; few are wasted or reduced to a name.

Coralie Fargeat has unlimited sauce: the cinematography, the editing, the production design, the sound design, everything -- it's exceptional.
The performances are excellent from everybody, and I'm gutted that Qualley wasn't nominated.

...although some of that may be a result of seeing this only a few days after Emilia Pérez, but I digress. Overall, I quite liked this film.

It's just too bad that the story sucks, and... y'know... that other thing.

At this point, I'm genuinely just going to create my own headcanon for what happens after S1 because of how much this story has meant to me and it hurts even more to know that it never got a proper, satisfying conclusion.
I don't see myself revisiting S2.

- Vander & Silco's connections to Vi & Jinx's parents
- Mel being a mage with connections to the Black Rose
- Viktor being the mage who saved Jayce as a kid
- Cassandra Kiramman being a benevolent person
And more; and for what?

While S1 will always occupy a special place in my heart and I can still appreciate it as an incredible season of television, my love for this season has been slightly tainted by what came after.

It has some really creative moments of satire that I love but sometimes they go overboard, leading to quite a few wonky plot points which are integral to the wider narrative.
Overall, it's good but it shouldn't have been nominated for Best Picture.

I really look forward to seeing this again after it gets a physical release--the production value is insane. I like a lot of the character writing as well (especially for Ellen), enhanced by excellent performances from a terrific cast.

But I have a question for those who have also seen it--because, based on my conversations with others, my answer may surprise you:
Do you think that John Doe *actually* has a point?
