Between the layoffs at FEMA and now the ones at the National Weather Service, we’re losing both advance warnings of weather events and help recovering from them. We are being thrust into a world where we’re all on our own.

I am a history nerd, particularly of the Tudor period, and right now is hauntingly similar to the point when Henry VIII, the richest man in England, seized the monasteries, stripped them of their assets to further enrich himself, and destroyed the social structure in the process.
