Maybe it’s totally worth risking custody of their kids and the hope of having more than a minimum wage job in the decade after they get out of prison to sabotage whatever portion of the system they can reach… or maybe there’s something more constructive they can do as a civilian. It is their call.

“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one” is a great ideal, but you’re quickly drifting from rooting for heroes to appointing martyrs.
What’s “limited” here is your appreciation of their individual situations. The ask is far more than just possible time stuck in a cage.

The sociopaths at the GoP have chosen their target community. Once they disappear trans identity they will come for the LGB community. And they are already gunning for the next group to disenfranchise: women in general. The need for scapegoats transcends any sense of decency or humanity.
