I made the components in Fusion and then printed them on my Ender3. The servos are driven off of an Arduino and a PWM Driver. I wrote code to procedurally animate the movement of the eyes. This video was made shortly after I go the entire mechanism working for the first time

I made this eye mech a couple years ago. The design is based on David Covarrubias’ eye mechanism covered in his “How To Make An Eye Mechanism” course from the Stan Winston School.

In September I was working on printing a set of quarter scale skulls from this model. Wanted to practice my surface finishing skills and experiment with some airbrush paints. I’ll need to come back to this project soon. I still want to add highlights and some glowing gem eyes to complete it.

It’s not essential to play the game but it really enhanced the experience by stepping into the role of cartographer while exploring the world in a way that still felt true to the intended gameplay.

Here is the circuit diagram I used to source electrical components. The design allows the automaton to be rechargeable and run off a lipo battery. A micro controller is used to control the motor and allow for variable speed patterns.

This proof of concept model shows the mechanisim that drives the animation. A DC motor hidden in the base drives a push rod that moves the figure. Putting the motor at an angle allows the push rod to an an elliptical path allowing the animation to look more "floaty"
