Appellate federal public defender. Alexandria, Va. Speaking only for myself; usual disclaimers apply.
Fran Brown picked a terrible year to have a disaster of a season. Gotta think that even 7 or 8 wins would have made him a very attractive candidate for a lot of big jobs, like Penn State maybe.

Risking your anti-gif-reply wrath because the game is giving me this exact feeling.
a man smoking a pipe next to a dog with the words back in my day on the bottom
Alt: Gif of Seth Meyers doing his "Back in My Day" sketch. He is puffing on a pipe while donning a cardigan sweater, sitting in an armchair next to a stuffed dog. The words "Back in my Day" are on the screen.

One reason we're careful about it here is that VA has "magistrates" who can issue warrants & summonses, do bail hearings, etc., but they aren't judges and don't even have to be lawyers. We often need to be clear whether a search warrant was issued by a state magistrate or a federal magistrate judge.

Spiritually they're like one of those teams from the '70s that finished ranked #4 in the country with a 7-1-3 record.

Yeah, I think there was another one where he said something like "Lite 'n' easy rock -- for when you can still get down but need some time to get back up!"

I'd love to see a re-creation of the time he caught a ride to a concert with one of his fans.

Federal courts at least have the Hyde Amendment, but as you can imagine, the standard is very difficult to satisfy.

If John Singer Sargent's *Gassed* is there, I hope you can see it. I saw it on loan at the Nat'l WW1 Museum in Kansas City a few years ago, and it was so powerful (and gigantic!).

I've thought a lot about this, and I think without Anders it has to go the other way: The lawyer would be allowed to advance frivolous arguments. I don't think that's what the courts *would* say if Anders went away, but to me that rule should have to give way to the right to counsel/right to appeal.
