The storm ended up dropping 15 feet over the next seven days, turning power lines into obstacles, skintracks into waist-deep trenches and snow-safety pits into construction projects.

The skiing was impossibly good, even for a crew of such seasoned veterans.

By the time they landed in Japan in late January, conditions were already wildly deep and forecasted to get even deeper. Then it started snowing … and kept snowing, until it reached apocalyptic rates of as much as three inches an hour.
