Further tales of the Halloween Breakfast Potato.

Behold, the Halloween Breakfast Potato.

Someone dropped a potato into my grandson's Halloween candy and I'm here for it. Soundly rejected by the young one in question, it will feature in my breakfast this morning and I will be telling the tale of The Halloween Breakfast Potato for years to come.

Anyone know what's going on with #BallJars? This is the third one to go in just a few weeks. I use them for freezing mostly, but never had problems like this before. Where can I get a reliable USA made (I am in the US) canning jar?

We planted two native oaks a few years ago, and this year we have acorns!!! How marvelous is this?!

Let's play cooking with Hubby's left-over ingredients (he's the cook) ½tomato–2T preserved lemon–⅓onion–olive oil–½ can cannellini beans–spoon of harissa–arugula & (only I like these) a tin of sardines.

And: Better than I thought! It should probably include pasta, but I avoid carbs in the morning.

This is what a prescribed burn looks like in Oregon. Just to see the smoke from a distance jumps your adrenaline.

And this is an opportunity to say once again how much we love and appreciate our wildland firefighters here in the West.

Thank you Oregon State lawmakers for your commitment to clean energy, clean air. And thank you for a convenient charging spot. I had to park a little skew-y, but it made for a nice photo.

As Gen X, I was so stoked to be welcomed for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Goth Anniversary!

At least that's how I read it as I was perusing the play bill before the show started.

Also, awesome show!

Brand new item, less than half full & the packaging is all plastic. The fake size takes up more shipping space, double the volume required, which means burning more fossil fuels.

And it's a con. A half full big lie on the shelf.

#Yarrow do better.
Right-size your containers.

Look's delicious. Are you using molasses in the recipe? For some reason with that color I just really, really want there to be molasses in there.

I've been making a very straight up white loaf recently, low knead & consistent results. I'm adding chia & ground golden flax & loving the result.

I experimented today also with making grandchild-sized rolls. They are yummy!

I've hit on a bread recipe I really like. Simple, organic and plant-based, with flax and chia for texture and fiber. And I didn't need the breadmaker after all.

We had to take out a number of trees bc of the fires & lost five more bc of the snow this week. Including a beautiful shade tree. My heart & wallet are so sad 😢 😢 Climate change is costly!

All the trees were nonnatives, the only silver lining is we'll replant native trees for birds & caterpillars.
February 12, 2025 at 12:26 AM
The silver lining is that we can plant native trees to replace the downed ones—previous folks planted almost all non-natives. I do hope the shade tree can hold on, tho, till the new ones can grow.

Just a couple photos of the foot & ½ of snow we got here. A lot for us. We have two trees down and may lose the big shade tree that is essential in summer. Snow sure is pretty, tho.

Here's today's offering. It came out looking a bit like a wise old loaf.

Texture is good. Tastes great. But I wouldn't mind a little bit more rise.

So...my kids introduced me to Zombicide, which I love to play. 😊😊 For Christmas my son made custom survivors (they battle the zombies) for the family and this is my card. Note the cross & chainsaw! 🤣🤣 Let us pray. And let the Divine Retribution begin!

No fake tree. No polyvinyl chloride. To decorate with old ribbon you may be stuck with poly-poisons to some degree. If starting fresh, use natural garlands! Presents tuck underneath nicely. I use a short ladder now, this one is propped up on Who Gives A Crap boxes covered with a tree skirt. Easy! 4

From outside, the triangle shape means a tree-like reflection as lights flicker in the window. Then, put a soft doll angel on top. Minus the consumerism, this is way more like a nativity than a western evergreen. The angel perches to welcome the baby while keeping an eye on the sheep & shepherds. 2

Our Christmas ladder instead of a tree. A way to reuse & upcycle holiday lights & ribbon. You can use the ladder from your garage, we did for years, as long as it opens into a triangle shape. For this one we bought a simple wooden garden trellis to reuse every year. It's festive and costs nothing. 1
