Adding "but" to the end of an clause reverses the polarity of what came before. Example: "I don't want to hurt your feelings, but" means "I want to hurt your feelings."

I had surgery a couple of weeks ago. I'm still very dependent on my partner, who tells me their fine with taking care of me. Yet, several times I've heard them telling friends, family and social media (voice to text) about how energy-draining and physically exhausting it's been for them. ➡️
