Not only 100% this, but it’s already accelerating so rapidly there is little anyone can do to slow or change it.
One thing that is glaringly obvious to anyone paying attention: The institutional media is being purchased and controlled by American oligarchs, and as such, can no longer be relied upon to carry out it's responsibility as the 4th estate.

There’s definitely truth to that. But I think it applies more to, say, views on entitlement programs than it does to public health. Other people’s self harm directly affects our health and well being.
As my friend @davidfrum.bsky.social said about vaccines and the pandemic: "I believe we ought to try to save people from self-harm. But there are practical limits to paternalism."
