It was intentional. At least it was one of the things he said in that interview I did with him anyhoo, but that was six years ago and he might give you a different answer now.

I remember you being very annoyed that Aster, in the interview, had said that he had meant the ending of Hereditary to be hilarious.

I can't fault you there. Relic is a favourite.

Also, we're getting on a bit, quite frankly. The folk horror boom hit a decade ago and a fair number of people on the scene were actually too young for it then. When I was a kid, TWM was one of my father's favourites. Now it's one of grandad's.

I admit, it was peculiar to me that I wound up liking Midsommar less (and less still with each subsequent rewatch) after talking to him.

Almost. He in fact said that he made a point of not rewatching the folk horror classics while making it. He told me that it was only in editing that it was noticed how similar the big ritual/rape scene was to the one in Blood on Satan's Claw.

I am glad films like that still get shown in the cinema. It makes me happy that there's something in the Vue other than another fricking sequel. Just something awkward and strange and unheralded. Just a movie.

It has happened to me with my book too, and to be honest I think if you do anything that tries to cover a wide set of bases it's inevitable.

I do believe that Kier-La did spend about a year though having to endure endless people on the socials badgering her with complaints about some film or other not being included

I mean, in my defence, I _completely forgot_ that the partner I showed Titane to ("You've got to see this, this is my favourite film for years!") has a big ick about pregnancy, I didn't do it on purpose

They did forgive me

Eventually
