My contribution to St. Cecilia's Day 2022: Henry Purcell's 'A New Ground', transcribed by the composer from the alto solo 'Here the deities approve' from his 1683 St. Cecilia's Day Ode. His transcription was printed in 'The Second Part of Musick's Handmaid', published by Henry Playford in 1689.

Somewhat fitting that my work today — on All Saints — revealed that Parson Ogilvie’s great-grandson, Channing Moore Williams, is commemorated by the Episcopal Church on 2 December. ⚓️

Nestled under an afghan crocheted by my great-grandmother long before I was born. She was born in 1891 and lived long enough that I do remember her. Her birthday is tomorrow.

Oops, I did it again. Bought an old book, that is.

“The Beauty of Holineſs in the Common Prayer” by the Rev’d Thomas Bisse. (1717)… AND it has a Bray Library bookplate!

One imagines receiving little warning that Rev’d Bray was about to appear. “Quick! Dust the books!”

I just bought this 1826 print of the Kenyon that wasn’t. The frame is pretty tired and the print isn’t matted well, so I’ll have that redone. These prints were sent as gifts to benefactors in England and America who responded to Bishop Chase’s appeal for funds for the new college.
