This is my last response. I'm not the one fighting. This ugly person has taken it upon themselves to police social media - not I. As this person has decided they think my photos are like a catalogue, they've been blocked. I don't have much time for rude idiots.

Forget it. I've been on here about 3 days now. I can see BlueSky is much like X. I'm no longer responding to anyone and I'm no longer volunteering information. I spend my time putting things together for you for free. I'm sorry if that isn't useful to you.

I'm not being "silly". I suggest you stop acting like the posting police. As I said, nobody has a monopoly. I found the bench ends interesting, so I posted them.

Gee. Thanks a lot. Do let me know when my pictures add something. Nobody has a monopoly on posting. I can see now why I took a 2 year break from social media. If you don't like my content then please unfollow me.

The actual number of backups you have is one less than the number you have. I suggest using Amazon S3 Deep Archive - cheap as chips to store (very expensive to get out - but you should never need to if you have local backups).

I find the lengthy inscriptions the most interesting. Many are prayers for the dead. There are many to be found at Harlton, Cambridgeshire. I record interesting graffiti when I find it.

This is not a crowned M (the usual form) but then again it looks early C16, which is getting quite late in the piece. It's next to an IHS, so I'd suggest it is M for Mary.

I've never taken a lot of what the graffiti people say very seriously. Nearly all of it is speculation and almost none of it based on documentary evidence. See Champion's book "Medieval Graffiti" which contains the author's subjective assessments and not much more. The template for all other work. 🙄

Well, sometimes I come across dubious info like this: devonhistoricgraffiti.org.uk/v-v-symbol-a... which could really only ever be applied to mediaeval graffiti. Here's a Marian symbol in glass at Kelham, Notts as a mediaeval example.

Well, what do you think they are? They aren't 17th century Ws.

There's a documentary account, as I recall, the corroborates what is on the panel.

It isn't a Marian mark. It looks 17th or early 18th century. It's a W (double-u - exactly that, vv which is uu). The door looks Victorian or later.
