Happy Halloween! My pumpkin this year features cadaverine, a molecule associated with the smell of...well, you can guess from the name 🧟

Just a little research group update: we've had a lot of new faces here recently! We're thrilled to have Lauren Morano, Livan Borrego, and Neively Tlapale Lara as new 1st years. Roberto Leon Baxin (3rd year) also joined our group in the fall. Look out for great things to come from all soon!

Thrilled that third year grad student Roberto Leon Baxin was among the winners of the Walters Teaching Award. Huge congrats to him and to all the other winners at our fall awards ceremony yesterday! 🎉

Brought my little one to campus in the morning (my spouse and I met there!), and showed her the science complex, but predictably she was more interested in the dino skulls than my old research lab 😆 (she loved the periodic table display with element samples, so maybe there's hope yet 😉)

Had the opportunity to visit Eli Lilly today and interact with an incredible group of scientists throughout the day, and shared my group's research too. Very grateful for the invitation, I loved my visit!

Leaf peeping with a purpose 🍂 had a great visit to Colgate today, such wonderful students and faculty. PUI visits are some of my favorites (hi, alum of a PUI here, I am not biased at all).

A few group members (plus an honorary group member) went for a hike over the weekend - so many good nature trails around Rochester!

Also, while transition metal catalysis has my heart, I've been tinkering with some biocatalysis, and I just say the experimental analysis is much better tastier

In addition to bringing in my group's first major grants, this summer I took on something even more ambitious: removing some lawn to build extensive raised beds and a terraced garden wall. Those spatial reasoning skills were definitely handy for building a dry-stack stone wall
