This is a great read. Pulling for him so much. As an aside, I sort of love that his comp for dealing with this potentially insurmountable and tragic challenge is facing prime Shaq

Heaven is perfect for that list. It seems that bullying is a theme across genres. I listened to Keigo Higashino's crime novel Malice where bullying was a central theme and expression of the title. If you branch to manga, A Silent Voice might be worth a quick peak. Looking forward to the episode

Just listened to your @readjapaneseliterature pod this week. Very cool discussion to accompany reading the Honjin Murders and the Decagon House Murders

Oh good to know! I haven't tracked that one down yet. I listened to the Tatami Galaxy a few weeks ago and am starting to watch some of the anime adaptation. The recurring characters, motifs, and locations paint quite the whimsical portrait of college life in Kyoto

Oh and how I would love to be transported to the Kyoto book fair in the park featured in the novels 💜

Higuchi isn't a Tengu, is he? I simply think of him as a perpetual student that lurks around many college towns, part mentor (or master) and part cautionary tale. Though there is something mystical about him. Morimi's universe is such a lovely and fun set of books and anime to explore

But it does also depend on the type of literature you like. I read everything I can get my hands on (classics like Kokoro to modern Murakami to softer stories like Days at the Morisaki Bookshop to darker stories like Ogawa's collection Revenge)
