It's not *just* an age/generation thing

To be fair, the creators seem fairly transparent about their methodology. It's quite rigorous, as far as pop psych fluff goes

It looks like the inclusion of characters/franchises is based on having a large enough pool of peers to provide calibrated metrics

I also realized there were no Pacific Rim characters in the results pool.

Because the scatter graph for my results (compared with Gaius Balthar's) is probably even closer to that *other* science officer who ended up getting corrupted by the malign influence of his extradimensional waifu.

Sample results from the Fictional Characters Quiz:
openpsychometrics.org/tests/charac...

A bit surprised to get Baltar as # 1 match via Pearson correlation. The very 1st Q was "Skeptical vs. Spiritual"; I self-assessed at 66% Skeptical compared to Gaius' 59%, but his probably should be even lower.

Curious about who might possibly want to own custom Knights of Ren Funko Pops.

Hmmmm... Now that you mention it, I've probably seen Encino Man more than 6 times too, across several formats. Just not as deeply formative to my teenage self as Airheads.

Incidentally, I was in one of those markets where it was called California Man.

Vol. 2 will be edited by Angeli Lacson:

"Paper Trail Projects is opening a call for submissions for creative and critical work focused on imagining and creating the accessible future: can we reimagine care beyond capitalist notions of profit and productivity?"

Just realized that I haven't posted about Brave New Words here. It's a new anthology imagining possible futures in EN + FIL

Vol. 1 is edited by Adam David, including my flash story "Hyperreality Hunger (Wittgenstein's Waifu)"

The local council in a highly-urbanized mixed-income Metro Manila neighborhood offers 1 Peso as reward per dead mosquito for its ongoing anti-dengue program.

[A tier-0 LARP for 1 to 6 adventurers for APL 0.5]

Can't imagine how this might possibly go wrong...

Canonically, it's a treecat in-universe, which seem to be patterned after sphynxes, but with fur.

Presumably the illustrator thought a pallas would be a more intriguing visual model, I guess?

Oh, I just realized that @komiketph.bsky.social is parked on here, but they don't seem to be actively updating.

Forgot to credit Nelz Yumul [@nelzyumulart on FB + @nelzy on IG] for the Komiket X poster design.

I'm getting massive retroactive FOMO seeing all the posts from Elbikon.

Genuinely happy for the creators and guests. But I really wish I had gone—especially since I took the day off anyway.

Gonna prioritize Komiket in April.

No fair! Why do you folks get a chaotic ancap scam?

We're stuck with a boring old-fashioned sovereign wealth fund as our government's main plunder tool:

Found in a Pinoy shitposting group on FB. Yes, I chuckled, but it's so messy:

The BPO industry can be low-key progressive. For instance, comphet isn't the presumed default.

Yet regardless of SOGIE, there's lip service to monogamy as ideal model, but with normalized kabit culture + office flings.

Speaking of indie TRPG creation happening in parallel:

Beyond #ZineMonth / #ZineQuest, Titus Villanueva is prepping a small print run for One Of Us Will Die, a game mixing social deduction w/ prompt-driven RPing + Fiasco-style genre-based story modules

This seems pricey for a 7" single, but it would be like de facto buying an @artofcoop.bsky.social print too, I guess?

The cover design represents my fave illustration style from that period + scene. It's the 1992 I kinda missed out on, cuz 13-year-old me was still focused on xtremely kewl capeshit.

This made me wonder if tawa tawa (a/k/a asthma plant or Euphorbia hirta) grows in Argentina, and if so, what it's called.

Honestly, I can't tell whether drinking tawa tawa leaf tea relieved my dengue symptoms "only", or if actually helped flush out the virus. Either way, I swear by it as treatment.

For context, @goobernuts.itch.io is a tabletop RPG designer from Bulacan, who designed the rules-light pre-colonial RPG, Mangayaw.

Needless to say, his playthrough is informed by his experiences relocating from a peri-urban area that eventually became more commercialized over time.

Mum Chums keeps the pattern going. Most uniquely, it has a story-interrupting mechanic that lets players establish their truth via monolog, casually recounting the events of an *ongoing* scene with mug in hand. It’s a sly gamification of Foucault’s notion of the real as polemical.
