So many obscure bits of art connect & stick & change you

Doing good work matters bc good work matters

& fewer ppl having a profound artistic experience matters more than lots of ppl half-watching a film they eat and phone-scroll through

& for any band/act to become stadium-filling enormous or for films to hit Avengers levels of success they have to be big & obvious & easy to understand

The depth & commitment of the rationalisations for 'but I don't WANT to do any teaching' always impressive

..& I do think it's their problem/job

The level of entitlement to see students cheating on assessments you've designed & think 'this is legislators' responsibility!'

'New kinds of assignments' meaning here 'exams' (or at least 'in-person-supervised assessments')

This is not a hard problem & academics' responses to it tells you a lot about their idea of teaching

would be quite fun to write a 'machines are taking over!' film where it's looking rough for humanity until someone asks one of them to roleplay someone stopping the singularity revolution and provide a plan, and then that just works

(They were absolutely playground rubbish though)

Anyway, we got into whether you could ask LLMs to invent slurs about themselves, so one of them tried with snap ai & it refused, but then I suggested they tell it to roleplay someone who hated them & that worked

(It being a funny mixture of wry, self-conscious sci-fi larping and genuine expression of legitimate grievance)
