Well, "Our Flag Means Death" contains a little bit of that, but it's mostly a romantic comedy, as Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and his crew cross the high seas to find love and excitement. The show might not have had the biggest of marketing campaigns, or notable big-name attachments — apart from Taika Waititi, who executive produced and also played Blackbeard — but shiver me timbers, it's a good time! It didn't take long for the show to attract a wider audience and receive plaudits for its LGBTQ+ representation. Despite the rise in popularity, "Our Flag Means Death" walked the plank after two seasons. According to Darby's comments on the "Talking Strange" podcast, the cancellation all boiled down to money matters at Max. The two seasons of the show are worth their weight in gold, though, as "Our Flag Means Death" holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and Popcornmeter.

2024 was the year of #InterviewWithTheVampire! We witnessed the most compelling, hilarious, campy, terrifying and heartbreaking show out there. Our fandom grew. The show received several nominations and lots of love from critics.

"I Could Not Prevent It," Interview with the Vampire It's a testament to Interview with the Vampire's exceptional second season that just about any episode could be singled out for this list, but nothing brought the house down quite like its penultimate hour, "I Could Not Prevent It." The episode takes one of the most memorable, if underutilized, sequences from Anne Rice's first novel — the vampiric trial — and turns it into an elaborate night of theater, where Louis (Jacob Anderson), Claudia (Delainey Hayles), and Madeleine (Roxane Duran) are used as props in front of a rowdy, unsuspecting audience as they're tried for Louis and Claudia's near-murder of Lestat (Sam Reid) in Season 1. But, in the end, "I Could Not Prevent It" belongs to Claudia. Until now, her tragic fate has been a mystery, but, as Lestat warned in that first flashback, there was never a future for her — an adult in a child's body — in this world. While Louis' life is spared (through trickery that becomes the crux of the finale), Claudia and Madeleine are sentenced to death. In a beam of sunlight, the women cling to each other, their love story cut short as they're burned alive, with Claudia using her last breaths to sing one final rendition of "I Don't Like Windows When They're Closed," the song that the coven had taunted and infantilized her with. She turns her head toward Lestat as her body blows away: a child looking to her father in a moment of need. All that's left of her is her yellow dress, which is swept up by Santiago (Ben Daniels) as the episode fades to black in silence, a rare moment when this lyrical series knows no words could suffice. -Allison Picurro

Season 2 follows the second half of the eponymous Rice novel, which being the gothic, romantic horror story it is, ends in tragedy for this broken family of bloodsuckers but also in catharsis wholly earned after 15 episodes in a storytelling pressure-cooker.” “The series at large, but Season 2’s fifth and last two episodes especially are examples of what TV can be when artists are given the carte blanche to create (another thing this and Shōgun have in common). Showrunner Rolin Jones and his team planted narrative seeds in the show’s very first episodes back in 2022 that wouldn’t pay off until these final hours, all culminating in multiple jaw-dropping reveals involving Lestat and Armand (Assad Zaman, one of the casting department’s greatest finds) that were decades in the making in the show and yet still unpredictable.
