Fresh off the Easel!

A vase of dogwood blooms caught my attention earlier this spring. I tried different-colored cloth backdrops, and the red velvet made the flowers come alive.

"Publishing is a retail industry. It’s not a meritocracy. The publishers buy books to sell in a store for people who will buy them, and your book might not fit that mold—either ever or right now—and you can’t do anything about that."

Word of the day is ‘matutolypea’: extreme grumpiness in the morning.

From the Latin ‘Matuta’, Roman goddess of the dawn, and the Greek ‘lype’, ‘grief’. Put them together and you get ‘morning grief’.

Today's word from The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce.
Deliberation: The act of examining one's bread to see which side it is buttered on.
