Election worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia, where we are always gearing up for an election, running one or wrapping one up.
Unfortunately, the top result in google searches is the Statista site, which uses that Census # of 168M, so it's understandable how people wrongly think it's "the" number. While the Census provides disclaimers on their site clarifying the context, Statista doesn' show the disclaimer on their site.

Registration numbers are reported by each state. The EAC compiles them in one place for Congress every 2 years. 209M is THE number for 2020.
That 168M is extrapolated from a Census survey of 60K households. It's used for demographics & trending, it's not election data.

I am still absorbing the fact that every state shifted red. Every state.

Thanks for getting back to me. You are likely aware of Cook's National Popular Vote Tracker but posting the link here for convenience. As of today's report, 155M votes have been tallied for the 2024 Presidential race, compared to 158M in 2020.

Where is @debfranchois.bsky.social coming up with her 15M number??

Not sure where you are coming up with 15M, but here are the total counts, per Cook Political, right now. Remember, votes are still being tallied across the country.

CCTV confirmed years ago that Capitol Police did not move barriers to let in Trump's mob. Take your lies back to X.

John, at the risk of being pedantic, I believe you meant 89M of the voting-eligible population didn't vote.

The U.S. has ~265M people of voting age, of whom ~245M are "eligible" to vote, of whom ~210M took the steps to register to vote.

Shawn, ~245M is the number of Americans who are ELIGIBLE to vote, not registered. Not all who are eligible take the necessary steps necessary to actually register to vote.

In 2020, there were 209M registered voters. In 2024, it's a bit more. You might want to connect with @sdonelan.bsky.social.
