I love and miss the days of the duck face, and I was wondering why it went out of style and I’m realizing… it never did! All the celebrities just got it permanently attached to their faces via lip filler!!

If this government shutdown and flight fuckery continues into holiday travel, can we please please please go with “the year the republicans stole Christmas”

I wonder if the proliferation of delivery robots will finally push forward bike infrastructure. They dragged their feet doing it for the common good, maybe they’ll do it for profit!

So many Americans believe in manifestation & redirection, and maybe that’s worked for people existing in this country rich with opportunities but it’s gonna be a big POV shift for all of us when we’re no longer this economic superpower

If nobody can give a definition of “woke”, aren’t all these media companies agreeing to censor “woke” (@ Skydance) pretty transparently agreeing to censor whatever-the-government-doesn’t-like?
I’m not saying this is a profound observation, I just think we need to explicitly call it out more.

AI isn’t taking jobs en mass yet. At least in tech, a lot of those jobs are being offshored. I wonder if that’s going to make the transition to AI taking your job longterm that much more opaque/harder to track when it’s the worker in the Philippines who’s losing the job you had for the last decade.

I feel like Apple is quietly sounding the alarm on AI. They’ve been modest even when talking about how they haven’t been able to get their AI to where they promised but I wonder (especially with their recent research paper) if the technology just isn’t nearly mature enough to be called AI!

….you’re pulling out the Afghanistan playbook for LOS ANGELES??? Are you liberating us from the influencers??? The bomb tacos??? ????????
Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

In a few years, they’re gonna actually come out with AI and are really gonna regret calling/marketing these LLMs as “AI”

First they illegally deport citizens. Then they unleash ICE to terrorize communities. Now they’ve got the National Guard in L.A. to silence protestors.

This ain’t about law and order.

This is what authoritarianism looks like.

It’s very bold of the elites pushing forward Trump’s agenda of deepening the wealth gap in this country after Luigi made it clear where we’re heading…

Repeat after me:
You don’t want to be a trad wife, you want to be an aristocrat
You don’t want a factory job, you want union benefits
You don’t want to have a wife, you want an unpaid servant
And you didn’t want a revolution, you wanted revenge.

I’m not concerned as a software engineer because I think AI is capable enough to do my job but because I know decision-makers are dumb and greedy enough to convince themselves that AI’s capable enough

Companies like Meta think they can replace entire industries (here, ad creative) with their AIs but do they think they can own and gate keep the AIs doing that work?
Mark Zuckerberg just declared war on the entire advertising industry — The Verge
It’s not really a secret that the advertising industry is about to get upended by AI — one reason big platform companies like Google and Meta have been so deeply invested in photo and video generation...

Or is it perhaps that this man at the top doesn’t see anyone below him as really human so that’s why his job requires intangible i.e. human skills but not any of the other workers’
Marc Andreessen says VC may be one of the last fields safe from AI after it replaces most workers, as it requires "intangible" skills like psychological insight (Lucas Ropek/Gizmodo)

Experts are saying that it’ll take years for America to really lose its economic/hegemonic status on the world stage but did any of them think that our institutions would (seemingly) fail as quickly as they did? It’s hard to know what to believe in “unprecedented times”

I wonder if what’s so unimpressive about AI “art” and the idea that it’s a tool instead of a replacement is that it’s not being used at the right scale. Like if the printing press only printed one page? Or a sewing machine stopped at one stitch?

Everyone’s talking about how we’re just in another reactionary cycle. After all the civil rights gains of the 60s, we got Reagan. After Obama, we got Trump. And after Trump, we deserve the biggest, greatest blue haired white lib whiplash of our goddamn lives!!!!!

so do Elon Musk and Sergei Brin and all the transhumanists that want employees to work nonstop realize that other people don’t have full time nannies? that they have other responsibilities but not the ability to push the domestic labor onto other people?

History is a circle. This article goes over Hitler’s Elon Musk, Alfred Hugenberg, a chaos agent in the early Nazi run who Hitler empowered and tolerated for his money, and all the other industrialists who supported or at least profited from Hitler’s steady stream of prison slave labor.

The world would be so much better if we all just started demanding numbers more.

“The subway is more dangerous than driving!!!!” -> “Show me the numbers”

There’s a lot of hand wringing going around that amounts to “why didn’t we just feed the trans ppl to the big bad wolf when we had the chance!!!” which… do you really think that if we had ceded that ground, they wouldn’t have just started frothing at the mouth for the next minority???

Maybe I read too much Sci-fi but with humanity heading into its space colonization era, I’m scared that Musk is going to be remembered as a visionary for being loud about pushing us forward instead of as the evil villain he actually is.
It certainly is a lesser thing than dismantling government and the tell here is what Musk’s true focus is: To use the power of the government to get to Mars:
