Hard to overstate the gravity of this event, which could very well be the first major shot in a campaign to dismantle US civil society as we know it.

I guess disturbing reports like this are helping many of us to decide not to attend conferences/workshops in the US for the foreseeable future
- what a dreadful development for global science
A French researcher going to a conference in the US had his phone and computer searched (and then confiscated) and was refused entry and expelled because they found stuff critical of Trump.
I guess lucky that he wasn't detained for weeks?
Don't travel to the US. No conference is worth the risk

What is the fate of these Lutruwitan ancients? Great book recently published by Tasmanian author Andrew Darby, telling a super important story (link in article). Next on my reading list for sure. Let’s hope they survive the precarious and challenging future ahead 🌿🌲🔥
Jurassic-era trees have grown in Tasmania for millions of years. Now they face their biggest threat: fire
Pencil pines grow for more than a thousand years each, and only in Tasmania. As lightning fires become more common, humans must mobilise to protect them – or lose these ancients forever
