and the reality is all data is produced. you design an instrument to measure something be it sentiment or temperature or frequency of occurrence and map your underlying signal to a useful construct

even meters and celsius do not inherently exist absent the tool used to measure them!

I get asked a lot (from marketing colleagues) why I use the term "ops" or "operators"

and to me its about acknowledging the distinct and important role that SRE/Infra/"DevOps" teams bring as a complement to devs
