I work with a global team and someone once asked me “Is it true in the US sometimes you call your parents’ friends or your friends’ parents your aunt or uncle???”
They couldn’t believe it. And I know in other cultures those are used even more broadly. Culture!

Some folks locally used to supplement their food with fish from a local river. They got mercury poisoning. Killed one person.

💯 This is a major reason I don’t travel more. Sometimes the friction outweighs the reward.

I didn’t think my humanities classes were all that hard. But I was surprised to find a final project for one class was the equivalent of a degree capstone at another university I’d considered. So much variation between schools.

It usually hits me at hour 3, so I thought I was invincible at hour six when I felt fine. But yeah, hour 12 hit me hard and continued for the next 72

My worst example of this was the time a guy said, “I don’t think I want to marry you” while we were on a hike. I … did not know that was even a consideration.

This is how I dated my husband. But it’s also how I dated several other people because I’m clueless. More than once I thought “was that a date???” years after the fact.

Honey toast! Often served with ice cream as a dessert in some Asian countries like Korea and Japan. A local ramen place sells it. It’s a great pairing.

And did a lot for the state of Utah, though that gets talked about much less. As a Utah-born kid at a Virginia college, the only thing people knew about my state was skiing and Sundance.

I have no comfort to offer but this: I’m a better person today because of a teacher and despite my parents.
“A” can make her own choices. But at least you’ve given her a good enough example that she can make that she has a choice.
