When someone writes “no one ever asked a grandmother on her deathbed about her thesis” but my thesis was about the Early Modern English deathbed so I will actually be LECTURING from mine.

I work with a global team and someone once asked me “Is it true in the US sometimes you call your parents’ friends or your friends’ parents your aunt or uncle???”

They couldn’t believe it. And I know in other cultures those are used even more broadly. Culture!

I didn’t think my humanities classes were all that hard. But I was surprised to find a final project for one class was the equivalent of a degree capstone at another university I’d considered. So much variation between schools.

Honey toast! Often served with ice cream as a dessert in some Asian countries like Korea and Japan. A local ramen place sells it. It’s a great pairing.

And did a lot for the state of Utah, though that gets talked about much less. As a Utah-born kid at a Virginia college, the only thing people knew about my state was skiing and Sundance.

I have no comfort to offer but this: I’m a better person today because of a teacher and despite my parents.

“A” can make her own choices. But at least you’ve given her a good enough example that she can make that she has a choice.
