Very sad to learn of the death of David Lodge - the Dickens (or merely Amis?) of late-20th century academia - whose Changing Places helped enliven my graduate studies in the 1980s. Even though my PhD advisor once called me 'the Morris Zapp of your set'.... I'm still reflecting on that, bitterly.
