I am afraid you are right. The Democratic Party was broken under the Clintons and has never revived despite best efforts of AOC and others. There is a movement but Americans are so used to their institutions doing the work. And extreme right Republicans have dreamt of this since the 70s or before...

Yes, originally it was water vapour from the engine, and it is this that condenses...

It's the US version - UK people used to say "vapour trails" since that is also what they are - both terms are "correct". I was commenting on UK using more and more US words and phrases, and also more US originated conspiracy theories...

A type of Tower of Babel is being created and a conspiracy-theory driven Grok will just add to the confusion!

I don't think that's a "thing" anymore. Reading or science books. Maybe they will play a slightly educational game... but I expect more Americans believe in witchcraft than have science degrees...

"Vapour trail" Thank you! Reminds me if the comparative sanity of the 1970s before "contrails" and "chemtrails"...

"Checks and balances" obviously disappeared. Going to be interesting to see how US Constitution is taught in polisci and constitutional law classes now! "Used to be...but now we have a king." Not holding my breath for "free and fair elections", either. Large scale civil disobedience is necessary...

Republicans have been corrupting the Supreme Court for decades. Bush v Gore started the modern process of using court for political purposes. An illegitimate court has no authority so it should be easy to appoint 4 new justices if ever the time comes...

We don’t live in a neutral marketplace of ideas. We live in an attention economy shaped by algorithms, tribal identity, outrage incentives, and profit models that reward engagement over accuracy.

Obviously now is time for Dems to say they will change the court by adding 4 more justices!

Not just comptrollers release but the resignation and prosecution of all ICE officials involved. NY should stop all cooperation with "Homeland Security" (easy to forget that was a chilling name when it was created in wake of 9/11) and any other Federal agencies with which it's possible to cut ties!
June 17, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Surprise surprise, no headlines about this in @nytimes.com, or anything about numerous No Kings demonstrators run over by right wing terrorists. The only outrage in the media comes from the right.
June 16, 2025 at 10:58 PM
If Democrats had any guts they would threaten renationalization of these lands, with no compensation, if and when a Dem trifecta returns to power!
June 16, 2025 at 10:41 PM
Don't see @nytimes.com headlines about this. NYTimes think: Probably something wrong with Dems, maybe they deserve it...

LAPD have a long history of this sort of behavior! It was just caught on camera this time...

But there is no equivalent of Faux Nooz to boost them. This is the problem with corporate media - all about $ and appeasing the extreme Right. The boycott of Target and Tesla shows where the Left should go.
June 15, 2025 at 4:14 PM
But the extreme right has Faux Nooz, and does just what Roger Ailes and Murdoch planned for it to do - to dominate the media narrative with lies. B Clinton signed off on this with his Telecommunications Act. The left needs a media presence as other sources of info like higher ed come under the gun!

Raskin for president!

Now waiting for @nytimes.com article saying that the fact they were Democrats is irrelevant information...

So Dems should stop supporting business as usual! Padilla himself voted to confirm some crazy to the Dept of State last week! Stop playing nice, Dem politicians!
June 12, 2025 at 10:55 PM
Trouble is that they have the unaccountable Faux News and countless right wing podcasting echo chambers. There needs to be a return to something like the fairness doctrine which Reagan got rid of... but hard to do in this of extreme right wing judicial philosophy.
